  11. This document describes the release history for MenuDropper, each release is listed in reverse chronological order and shows bugs fixed and features added.

  24. ANY redistribution of the MenuDropper product MUST be in the form of the complete package, as per the license conditions stated in the MenuDropper Instructions document.

  26. • What is Menu Dropper •
  27.  
  28. Menu Dropper is a System 7 utility that allows the you drag Icons from the Finder and ‘drop’ them onto items inside various system menus. It is supplied as a control panel, drop it into the Extensions , or Control Panels subfolder of your System Folder and restart your Macintosh. If it cannot load, Menu Dropper will alert you and allow your system to continue unaffected. Currently Menu Dropper is compatible with Finder 7.0, 7.1 and the AppleScript Finder version 7.1.1.  As new versions of the Finder appear I shall publish new versions of Menu Dropper to support them.

  34. ->  Fixed a minor bug with PPC toolbox testing in the control panel
  35. ->  Added a startup icon that notifies the user that MenuDropper is in the
  36.      'OFF' state.
  37. ->  Fixed a popup menu cntl id problem (ResEdit bug).

  42. ->    I have provided a control panel interface to adjust MenuDropper options.
  43. ->    Added a resolve alias option to the control panel to affect the
  44.     resolution of aliases during alias creation.
  45. ->    The incompatibility with the system extension PowerKey has
  46.     been fixed.
  47. ->    Added support support AliasMenus iconic menus, these will need to be
  48.     configured with a ResEdit template 'AMpr' in the control panel file. The button
  49.     in the control panel to do this configuration will be available in the next release.
  50. ->  Fixed a minor bug in DragWindow causing problems with Eudora.
  51. ->  Added an option to disable, or not even load at all, the DrawWindow feature.
  52. ->  Fixed a problem with NowMenus desktop popup menu coming up if the user
  53.     hesitates during a drag.
  54. ->  Worked around a Finder bug preventing the movement of more that 
  55.     17 items at the same time. There is no limit at all now, I have
  56.     tested 4967 items in a single operation.
  57. ->  Added support for OtherMenu releases 1.2 and up. (If you use an
  58.      earlier version you must upgrade to use MenuDropper with it).
  59. ->  Fixed launch of applications resident on the root of a volume or the desktop.
  60. ->  You can now create a real alias of the trash, and you can put stuff
  61.     in the trash from the apple menu using MenuDropper.
  62. ->  Fixed the 'catching' of items after a lonk click in the about box, and save dialog.
  63. ->  Added new format preferences, most things are now configurable.
  64. ->  Balloon help is now correctly restored after a drop onto 'About MenuDropper'.
  65. ->  Added a preference to disable the animated icon at startup.
  66. ->  improved the reporting of the resource file not found condition. If 
  67.     anybody gets this please report the error message and code to the
  68.     developer if at all possible, please, please, please (I have been unable to
  69.     reproduce it here).
  70. ->  Prevented MenuDropper from attempting to launch INIT's cdev's rdev's
  71.     and desk accessories when documents are dropped on them.

  98.      create an alias of the Trash, (not that it is particularily  useful), and
  99.      MenuDropper will inform you that it cannot move the trash off of the
  100.      desktop, instead of trying to copy the root partition.
  101. ->    Fixed NowMenus 'recent items' sub menus compatibility problems.
  102. ->    Fixed compatibility problem with ApplicationWindows cdev.
  103. ->    Fixed double resource release bug (thanks, James Walker)
  104. ->    Fixed MenuHook bug involving deep menu offset
  105. ->    Fixed startup notification bug (error message wasn't persistent)
  106. ->    Modified all code to handle multiple menus, additional menu support
  107.      may be added easily now.
  108. ->    Improved error message handling
  109. ->    Changed startup ICON code, can now visually report 'no load'
  110. ->    Added 'cute' startup animation
  111. ->    Loading can now be bypassed with the shift key, or mouse button
  112. ->    Added a complete window drag handler, instead of the outline. This
  113.      will be controllable  via the control panel soon
  114. ->    Desktop moves have been cleaned up. Now MenuDropper will sort
  115.      through all items dragged from the desktop, and give the Finder 2 sets of
  116.      instructions, one set for the items resident on the same volume as the
  117.      destination, and another for the rest. The option and command keys are
  118.      understood for these operations. The only caveat now is that if you  drop
  119.      onto a folder in a hierarchical menu from the desktop the folder window
  120.      will open.To fix this would overly  complicate the code and it is now the
  121.      only occurrence of it.
